Material speculation workshop for infants, with the artist Mercedes Pimiento

On December 12th, at 11:30 a.m., a workshop on material speculation for children will take place at the Carme Cultural Center, held in conjunction with the exhibition “And, Suddenly, Chance: Uncertainties, Destinies, and Coincidences in the MACBA Collection.” This hands-on, experimental activity will be led by artist Mercedes Pimiento.

In this project, the artist invites us to explore mountains through an artistic and creative lens. Throughout history, mountains have been spaces imbued with symbolic, mythological, and cultural meanings—but what happens when we are the ones who create them?

During the workshop, we will have the opportunity to build an artificial mountain and explore the relationship between human intervention and natural processes. Through experimentation, we will reflect on the boundaries between control and chance, as well as how our decisions influence the final outcome.
