(Manifesta 15 Barcelona Metropolitana) Workshop: WHAT DO SEA CREATURES KNOW ABOUT PEDAGOGY?
This series of workshops reconnects participants with the educational practices of the Escola del Mar as part of the research project Fora per fer escola. It offers a space for collective action and reflection on the intersections between art, science, and education through a variety of experimental events. These include talks, workshops, and performances by artists, scientists, educators, and environmental activists, which will take place at Somorrostro Beach in Barcelona. The project is inspired by Sara Torres-Vega’s research on the Escola del Mar tradition in outdoor education, moving beyond a human-centered pedagogical approach. Instead, it aims to introduce a contemporary perspective that recognizes the fundamental role of the sea within our global, multi-species ecosystem.
The program is organized in collaboration with the Centre de la Platja, a municipal space in Barcelona dedicated to environmental education, sustainability, and ocean culture, and is supported by the Daniel & Nina Carasso Foundation.
