On Saturday, September 12, we’ll open the doors of La Escocesa to showcase the workshops and creative processes of our resident artists.

Throughout the day, you can visit the different spaces; we recommend signing up for one of the guided tours. In the evening, we’ll keep the party going with Zazi White, DJ Karma, and other surprises!

guided tours

At the Tallers Oberts, there will be guided tours in Catalan and Spanish (morning and afternoon), as well as a special tour for people with disabilities (in the afternoon).

Each tour will be limited to a maximum of 15 people. If you’d like to participate, stop by the meeting point and sign up! The meeting points are: the blue door of the Johnston Hall for tours in Catalan and Spanish, and the Espai M for the tour for people with disabilities. Find them on the map.

food and drink

From 12h to 23h., we’ll have a food area (with vegan and gluten-free options) set up at Nau Foseco. The food will be provided by “De saberes y sabores,” a project by KKantina Migrante. Throughout the day, there will be bar service offering both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. During the party, Bar Pony will be providing beverage service.

diskas Open Workshops

At La Escocesa, our goal is to embrace and celebrate diverse realities and bodies: non-bipedal, non-normative, sick, or disabled. To create diskas Open Workshops—and to the best of our ability—we propose addressing architectural barriers and other forms of ableist discrimination.

As people with disabilities who live in and shape this space, we encounter ableist realities on a daily basis—realities that systematically exclude us from public and private cultural and social activities by failing to meet our needs.

The proposal includes creating a horizontal space (a rest area for people with disabilities) to experience the place in different ways, priority-use furniture, a guided tour for people with disabilities, specific signage, a sensory table featuring materials provided by each artist, along with audio descriptions and a video that highlight and bring to life all the workshops led by La Escocesa’s resident artists—including those on the upper floor that are not accessible.

We also have support personnel (APs) available for anyone who requests them, both in advance—to help get to La Escocesa—and to provide support during the Tallers Oberts event.

This is an information desk you’ll find when you arrive at La Escocesa. This is where you can request support staff (AP). We’ll have program guides and a map of the venue to help you find your way around, as well as a sensory table with materials provided by each of La Escocesa’s resident artists.

Support staff will be available at the punt diska from 12h to 22h.

diska relaxation space 

This is a space with minimal visual and auditory stimulation, featuring furniture for lying down, soft lighting, steaming toys, and a sensory-disconnection teepee.

Talking and the use of any type of electronic device are not permitted in this space, as they may disturb others.

Starting at 19h, the Diska Rest Area will remain open, but there will be music in the courtyard that may affect the low-stimulation environment.

A space for research and accessibility where artworks and materials can be explored through touch, opening up new ways of perceiving and engaging with art. We invite all resident artists to share materials, prototypes, models, textures, or other tactile elements from their creative processes to collectively build this exhibition installation and make it accessible to people who are blind or have low vision.

Tau Luna swill lead the Diska Guided Tour, which will take place from 17h to 18:30h.

We’ll meet at Espai M (ground floor of Nau Johnston) to explore the spaces of the creative factory in an accessible way. We’ll use a video to show us the workshops that aren’t accessible, and we can ask the artists from those workshops on the upper floor to come down and explain what they’re working on, as well as their creative and research processes.

When the guided tour isn’t taking place, you’ll find a mural here with information about the artists and their work, as well as a video that shows the inside of the workshops that aren’t open to the public.

audio descriptions

The artists from La Escocesa have provided audio descriptions of their workshops for people who are unable to physically attend them. We will soon post a link with all the audio files and transcripts.

do you need a personal assistance (AP)* to attend, or during the Tallers Oberts?

During the Tallers Oberts, support staff (AP) will be available to assist anyone who requests it on the spot (transcription services, assistance moving around the venue, accompaniment to the restroom, and assistance with eating).

If you’re sure you’ll be attending and think you might need some assistance, please let us know in advance. You’re also welcome to bring a support person you trust from home. We’ll cover their travel expenses. If you need this assistance, please contact gerencia@laescocesa.org.

*what is a personal assistance (AP)? 

Personal assistance (AP) is a support service that enables people with disabilities to perform daily tasks they cannot do on their own, with the goal of promoting their independence and social participation. The personal assistant works directly with the service user, following their instructions and respecting their decisions.

espai families

“Subversive Family: Mutual Parenting, Extensive Like Sensory Tentacles, Possible and Livable” is a participatory installation that proposes prototypes of imagination and intergenerational care rooted in radically unconventional forms of motherhood.

Open from 11 to 19h, provided by Parque Creativo. You can find it in the courtyard by the fireplace.

Children must ALWAYS be accompanied by an adult, both in this space and in the other areas of the La Escocesa creative factory.

We’ll also have books from Edicions la Escocesa for sale. You can find them at the booth set up in the main area of Nau Foseco, near the food and drink area.
