Viaje al centro de la tierra. Carlos Casas

Viaje al centro de la tierra presents part of the research Carlos Casas developed for his film Krakatoa, inspired by the 1883 eruption of the Krakatoa volcano, one of the most extreme geological and acoustic events in history. The exhibition explores the sonic, seismic, and mythical dimension of the eruption through platforms of vibrational perception, sound sculptures, audiovisual installations, drawings, photographs, and archival materials. Over years of research, Casas worked with sound models of volcanic eruptions and contemporary seismic studies, developing a deep interest in low frequencies, infrasound, and the vibrations produced by the Earth.

From this research, the artist created vibrational transmission systems that transform seismic signals into perceptible physical experiences. Through platforms equipped with transducers, the viewer comes into direct contact with vibrations that alter physiological perception and expand the auditory experience into haptic and bodily dimensions.

The exhibition includes a vibrational reconstruction of the 1883 eruption and a speculative composition based on a possible future eruption: Krakatoa 2066. Alongside these pieces, a series of audiovisual works and light installations explore the relationship between vibration, luminous perception, and altered states of consciousness.
