Yalla Tnam, Yalla. Mounira Al Solh

Mounira Al Solh works across textile, painting, drawing and installation, drawing on personal narratives to reflect on memory, migration, feminism and the lasting effects of conflict. Her practice often begins with lived experience, connecting intimate stories to broader historical and political realities.

The exhibition centres on Nami Nami Noooom, Yalla Tnaaam (“Sleep, Sleep, Sleep, Let’s Sleep”), a textile installation that revisits a childhood memory from the Lebanese Civil War. Kept awake by nightly bombardments, Al Solh was encouraged by her mother to stitch around small holes she had cut into her pyjamas as a way to cope with fear and anxiety through the calming act of sewing. Years later, she transformed this gesture into a collective embroidery project with women in Lebanon and the Netherlands, leaving the openings visible with colorful embroidery. Alongside the installation, the exhibition includes textile works, cut-out paintings and drawings that extend these reflections on memory, dreams and the ways personal experiences are carried across time and place.
