Cultivating the Uncanny. Álvaro Perdices

This anthological exhibition brings together a series of works produced by Álvaro Perdices (Madrid, 1971) over the course of the last fifteen years and combines various emblematic productions of his with unpublished works conceived for La Virreina Centre de la Imatge.

After studying at the University of California (UCLA) and living in Los Angeles for over two decades, Perdices returned to Spain in 2011 and began his own artistic career while curating and coordinating exhibitions for the Museo del Prado at the same time.

One of the themes running through Perdices’ work is the concept of ‘de-education’, by which he alludes to collective structures that call for learning freed from norms and hierarchies; or the analysis of peripheral nature, the countryside and the city, the wild and the urban.
