Werner Herzog, The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser (1974)
With a presentation by Fèlix Pérez-Hita (Filmmaker, screenwriter, and editor)
He knows no language and has lived his entire life isolated from society, in a cave. The film, based on a real case, tells the story of Kaspar Hauser, which was brought to light through Jakob Wassermann’s book published in 1908.
The character becomes the subject of scientific and social investigation after a stranger abandons him to the authorities of Nuremberg in 1828. The film explores the life and death of this enigmatic figure. The case opens the debate on human behavior in the individual: what is driven by instinct, and what is the result of learning and social conventions?
Activity included in the public program of the exhibition “The Idiot.” In collaboration with Cinema Truffaut.
