IRAN EN PRIMER PLA, MÉS ENLLÀ DEL VEL.

Film club in collaboration with the Girona Film Critics Collective at the Truffaut Cinema.

Presentation by Anahita Nassir, Spanish-Iranian political scientist.

A journalist from Tehran delves into the most notorious neighbourhoods of the holy city of Mashhad to investigate a series of femicides. She soon realises that the local authorities are in no hurry to solve the case. The crimes are committed by a single man, who claims to be purifying the city of its sins and attacks sex workers at night.

Iranian cinema has become a space of creative freedom despite censorship and restrictions, turning into a window of denunciation and beauty where public and private spheres constantly collide, where women and young people fight to make their voices heard, and where cinema so effectively reflects the underlying tension. This series offers a perspective on Iran not only through its conflicts but also through its great capacity for resilience and desire for change, with a unique poetic and narrative strength. The screenings showcase the latest film productions that have enjoyed great public and critical success, addressing themes that speak to us as active members of the community.
