Projecció: Leer Lolita en Teheran, d'Eran Riklis
IRAN EN PRIMER PLA, MÉS ENLLÀ DEL VEL.
Film club in collaboration with the Girona Film Critics Collective at the Truffaut Cinema.
Presentation by Shima, intercultural professional and cultural witness.
Every Thursday morning for two years, Azar Nafisi, a brave and brilliant Iranian professor, secretly gathered in her living room seven of her most outstanding students to read banned books: works by Jane Austen, Henry James, Scott Fitzgerald and, of course, Vladimir Nabokov, the author of Lolita. As the young women gradually express themselves through the books, they realise how their lives are transformed and intertwined with the plots of the works they devote themselves to.
Iranian cinema has become a space of creative freedom despite censorship and restrictions, turning into a window of denunciation and beauty where public and private spheres constantly collide, where women and young people fight to make their demands heard, and where cinema so vividly reflects this underlying tension. This series offers a view of Iran not only through its conflicts, but also through its great capacity for resilience and desire for change, with a unique poetic and narrative strength. The screenings showcase recent film productions that have enjoyed major public and critical success, addressing themes that speak to us as active members of the community.
