Public Address System PA System by Helen Collard.
Public Address System is a collective artwork in a resonant architectural space. The assembled voices of the swarm perform a thirty-minute sound meditation while the audience is invited to walk or sit nearby. Simultaneously, the sound is broadcast live through a PA system to an outdoor public space.
Previously, this work was performed by a group of 100 people at the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, in the UK. The next version of the PA System will take place in the Cistern of the Girona History Museum, utilizing the long reverberation time of this architectural space to inform the performance and sound quality. The meditation is a gentle hum used in yoga to calm the body and mind. In the context of a large ensemble within a resonant architecture, the meditation produces nuances, harmonies, and reflections that build and resonate throughout the performance, evoking the figure of a human hive.
This performance will be carried out in collaboration with Gresol and the 20th edition of FEM, International Meeting of Women Performance Artists, in late November 2024. An action within the framework of the week against gender violence.
