Touching the City: an Interactive Urban Symphony – Led by Joan Thió Casals
Segona Residència 2026
Art and play in public squares during July evenings
Plaça d’Empúries
For children of all ages
July 20, 21 and 22, from 7 pm to 9 pm
An interactive sound art intervention that transforms public space into a collective musical instrument. Through Physical Computing technology, urban furniture becomes touch-sensitive surfaces that generate sound when children interact with them directly.
The aim is to rediscover the environment, allowing participants to shift from passive users to active composers, encouraging collective creation. Through an educational and experiential process, children become co-creators: they experiment with technology, take part in the technical setup in the square, and are empowered to transform their own neighborhood.
Specialized in the creation of interactive and sound environments, Joan Thió Casals is an active member of Fotonik Lab, where he explores the intersection of light, sound, and creative technology. Combining his artistic background with his experience as a youth activity leader, he is accustomed to designing complex installations that foster group dynamics involving children and young people.
Segona Residència is a participatory artistic leisure project co-produced by the Associació Cultural La Volta, the Centre Cultural Les Bernardes, and the Bòlit, Centre d’Art Contemporani de Girona.
