Afterlife: A Midlife Crisis and a Handycam. With Irena Visa and Lluís Galter.

During this session, Lluís Galter and Irena Visa will analyse two of their own works that have much in common: two films shot on handycam, during the summer on the coast, and set against the same existential backdrop: the midlife crisis.

The two artists will look at excerpts from the feature film Aftersun (Lluís Galter, 2022) and the short film En este día tampoco se encontró nada (Irena Visa, 2026), tracing shared ideas, common interests and generational frustrations as they encounter corpses, holidaymakers and perhaps the promise of eternal life.

Irena Visa (Banyoles, 1985) is a visual artist and educator. She trained in audiovisual language, arts applied to sculpture and artistic research. Her practice explores the clues and signs that reveal possible phenomena at the boundary between reality and fiction. She often works with natural and cultural spaces that accumulate memory and layers of meaning. Her work creates devices that connect past and present, the visible and the latent.

Lluís Galter (Figueres, 1983) is a filmmaker and director. He holds a degree in Audiovisual Communication, and his work combines experimental cinema and commercial television. His films Caracremada (2010), La substància (2016), Aftersun (2022) and Ohio Sonata (2025) have been presented at festivals including Venice, San Sebastián, FID Marseille, IDFA, DMZ Korea, Visions du Réel, Documenta Madrid and L’Alternativa. He often works with documentary forms and their hybridisation with other film genres.
