Biennal d’Art Ciutat d’Amposta (BIAM)
A thermostat of the state’s artistic activity in relation to contemporary creation. This could be a good definition of the Biennal d’Art Ciutat d’Amposta (BIAM), which, since 1989 and with seventeen editions behind it, has evolved into a powerful showcase for the country’s emerging creativity. This year, the event reaches maturity and will open at Lo Pati – Centre d’Art de les Terres de l’Ebre on Saturday, November 30, at 7:00 PM, running until February 2, 2025.
The exhibition will feature a mix of emerging and established artists, bringing together high-level proposals and renowned names at both the national and international levels. The jury has selected twelve projects to be part of the exhibition, among which the winning piece will be announced on the opening day. This year, over 200 portfolios were evaluated. The jury was composed of Elvira Dyangani Ose, curator and director of MACBA; Peio Aguirre, art critic and independent curator; Chus Martínez, curator and director of the Institut de Gènere Art i Naturalesa at the Acadèmia d’Art i Disseny FHNW in Basel; and Aida Boix, director of Centre d’Art Lo Pati, who acted as secretary with voice but no vote.
The Biennal d’Art Ciutat d’Amposta (BIAM) is a national-level award held every two years. The prize includes €5,000 for the winning piece and €500 for each selected artist. The organization covers the transportation and insurance costs of the selected works. For this reason, in 2022, the BIAM received the Good Practices Seal awarded by PAAC (Plataforma Assembleària d’Artistes de Catalunya), making it the fourth initiative in Catalonia and the first outside Barcelona to achieve this recognition.
