Camille: The Political Dimension of Smell With Silvia Bigi

ONLINE

In Western culture, a sensory hierarchy hides that reflects and perpetuates colonial and power logics: this online conversation aims to reverse this trend by identifying the sense of smell as a potential means to decolonize art and its practices.

Based on the story of five women with the same name, Italian artist Silvia Bigi attempts to observe how visual domination has inevitably led to the deodorization of the world, reducing the sensory richness of reality to a simplified and controllable image. In contrast, wild medicinal herbs, a marginal and rebellious landscape, represent for her an invitation to rediscover a deep and meaningful connection with the non-human world.

To conclude, there will be a horizontal debate space, where reflections can be shared and collective strategies proposed.
