INTERNATIONAL CURATORIAL RESIDENCY PROGRAM 2026

The Centre for Contemporary Art and Sustainability, CACiS – El Forn de la Calç, is pleased to announce an international open call to select a curator, researcher, or curatorial collective to develop a research project and exhibition programme as part of the International Curatorial Residency Program 2026.

The residency programme aims to support curatorial research, foster the professional development of emerging curators, encourage artistic mediation, and promote the creation of new exhibition narratives connected to contemporary rural territories.

The selected proposal will develop a curatorial project that will result in a programme of four exhibitions, to be presented throughout 2027 in the exhibition spaces of CACiS.

We are pleased to announce an international open call to select a curator, researcher, or curatorial collective to develop a research project and an exhibition programme as part of the CACiS International Curatorial Residency 2026.

2026 Theme: Other Ruralities

We are looking for proposals that explore new ways of understanding rural territories through a critical and contemporary perspective.

Research topics include:
• New ecologies and landscapes
• Depopulation and repopulation
• Food sovereignty
• Community-based practices
• Ecofeminisms
• Extractivism
• Living heritage and memory
• Digital ruralities
• Climate crisis
• Art, science and territory

The residency will culminate in the development of a programme of four exhibitions to be presented at CACiS throughout 2027.

The residency includes:
• €2,500 curatorial fee
• Accommodation during the residency
• Workspace
• Guidance from the CACiS team
• Technical and conceptual support
• Exhibition production (€400 per exhibition + equipment and materials)
• Communication and promotion of the project

Timeline
• Application deadline: 30 August 2026
• Results announced: 14 September 2026
• Residency period: September–October 2026
• Exhibition programme: 2027
