Daedalus, Icarus and us

We are pleased to present the exhibition Daedalus, Icarus and Us at the Centre d’Art Terres de l’Ebre Lo Pati d’Amposta. The exhibition, curated by Xavier de Luca and Houari Bouchenak of Jiser Reflexions Mediterrànies, features works by Camilla de Maffei, Denis Dailleux, Pauline Alioua, Myriam Boulos, Shareef Sarhan, Toni Serra *) abu ali, Matteo Guidi & Giuliana Racco, Jose Lorrüe, Irene Zottola, Djamel Agagnia, Aureli Ruiz, Philip Scheffner, Fethi Sahraoui and Maya-Inès Touam.

Daedalus, Icarus and Us proposes a journey through spaces of questioning and narratives that define territories and civilisations – including our own – exposed to paradigms that have become entrenched both in thought and in the spaces where we live and move, thereby fuelling an obsession with control. The concept proposes labyrinthine wanderings around the representation of the city, linking it to the myth of ascent and fall, as a way of rethinking and becoming aware of everything that shapes our lives.

Through photographs, installations and audiovisual works of great poetic and critical power, created by artists with links to the shores of the Mediterranean and neighbouring territories, the exhibition explores the city and the sea as places of tension and movement. The works examine the forms of control exerted over bodies, borders and landscapes, as well as the colonial legacies and inequalities that still permeate this shared space. Between the labyrinth built by Daedalus and Icarus’s urge to fly, the exhibition invites us to reflect on our own position within these narratives — as inhabitants, witnesses and those responsible — and to imagine new forms of hospitality, dialogue and coexistence.
