In 2003, a collective research project was developed with the support of several Spanish cultural institutions. Entitled Desacuerdos. On Art, Politics and the Public Sphere in the Spanish State, it gave rise to exhibitions, publications, public debates and meetings. Initiated by MACBA in Barcelona, Arteleku in Donostia and the International University of Andalusia, the project sought to trace the cultural practices, models and counter-models that had emerged during the years of the Spanish Transition and that did not conform to dominant structures and dynamics. In this context, on 12 March 2004, Jesús Carrillo, one of the project’s initiators and coordinators, interviewed art critic and theorist Manel Clot, a leading authority on the Spanish art scene since the 1980s. Conducted in Barcelona, the interview forms part of the project’s documentary research materials.

Un museu fora del museu proposes taking works from the MACBA Collection and Archive outside the museum in order to present them in places of social interaction and seek different, closer forms of engagement, in collaboration with the SPEAV network (Public System of Visual Arts Facilities of Catalonia), as part of the celebration of the museum’s 30th anniversary.

Un museu fora del museu puts forward the idea of a multiple museum shaped around a community of voices. “The” museum becomes “a” museum that seeks to foster dialogue and interaction, with the aim of encouraging perspectives beyond the usual ones. The project offers close encounters with art and distinctive contexts for the works, within a field of action that encompasses the entire territory.

A project curated by Martí Manen.
