Flames to a Moth. Ilse Kind

In 2018, an image of a moth pressing itself against a window, drawn to a lamp, circulated widely as viewers recognised themselves in its pull toward illuminated screens. Moths navigate by light, yet artificial light produces capture instead of orientation. Illuminated storefronts first exploited this instinct, turning glass into a surface that attracts and directs attention. Today, windows also look back, extracting value from the act of looking itself. Flames to a Moth is a site-responsive installation at CasCaDas ArtSpace in Barcelona’s Raval district. Using attention as raw material, it mobilises the vitrine as a membrane between interior and exterior, translating presence into product.
