The exhibition Una imatge que engoleix, que xucla – a title inspired by the publication Lo visible es un material inestable by the artist Eva Lootz – explores how art can anticipate, evoke or suggest latent, potential or not-yet-realized questions and structures. How can something that does not (yet) exist be shown? How can we access everything that lies outside the field of vision?

In the essay Visión periférica, Marina Garcés reflects on how, in philosophical terms, over the centuries the sense of vision has been transferred from the realm of the sensible to that of reason, objectivity and categorization. But Garcés also questions the possibility of reclaiming a gaze that has been hijacked by capitalism and viral consumption in order to return it to the bodily, sensory and affective plane. What new visualities might unfold if we approached what lies at the peripheries of vision from a sensory perspective? Can the intangible become material?

Caterina Almirall presents a curatorial proposal composed of a selection of projects in residence at Roca Umbert during 2025 that stretch and blur the limits of visuality and representation. The works and images proposed by Marta Cardellach, Oscar Moya Villanueva, Mercis Rossetti and Laia Solé Coromina do not only absorb: they slip, trace, modulate, point and reveal.

Marta Cardellach (Terrassa, 1989) is a photographer and visual artist. She uses the image as a research tool and as a bridge for action towards reality. From an intimate perspective, her projects focus on social critique and the vulnerability of individuals, in relation to the role of the image and the gaze. Her work has been exhibited in Catalonia, Chile, Argentina and Sweden. She has been awarded the Biennal Mollet Art 2024 (Museu Abelló) with the installation Glòria, the Premis Lacetània d’Art i Cultura by Òmnium Bages, the first photography prize at the Besmina Festival Barcelona, and was a finalist in Mirades amb veu by Metges del Món.

Oscar Moya Villanueva (Parets del Vallès, 1996) has in recent years been an artist in residence at Fabra i Coats: fàbrica de creació de Barcelona with the project Floquet de Neu. Revisitar una icona de Barcelona. This same project was selected in the Sala d’Art Jove Creació 2024 call, and the research results were part of the exhibition Un paisatge reverberant, laberíntic, fangós, dens i estrellat. The project will also be part of the Temporals program. Recently, he has also participated in the exhibition of finalist works for the Premi Antoni Vila Casas Escultura 2024, in the show Augurio. La forma ha aparecido como rastro, within the Festival Art Nou, in Distensions #4 Coral at the auditorium of the MACBA convent, and in Habitar teixits at Segundo Espacio. He is currently an artist in residence at Roca Umbert with the project ¿Quién produce y para quién?.

Mercis Rossetti Caral (Barcelona, 1989) is an artist and curator. She holds a degree in Fine Arts (UB), a master’s in Artistic Creation: Realisms and Contexts (UB), and a master’s in Management of Creative and Cultural Industries (UPF). She studied large-format photography at the International Center of Photography School in New York. Her work has been featured in various festivals such as LA NUU (Rubí), Festimatge (Calella), VilaPensa (Vilafranca del Penedès), and TerraTecaTraca (Catalonia), and has been exhibited in museums and art centers such as Fundació Guinovart (Agramunt), Fundació Úniques (Barcelona), and the Museu Etnològic i de cultures del món (Barcelona). She is co-editor of the graphic art publishing house Tinta Invisible in Barcelona. She published her first book Aptos del rey Vol. I in 2024. She is currently exhibiting her project Caminar sobre l’aigua at Can Manyé, espai d’art i creació in Alella, and is an artist in residence at Roca Umbert with the project Esdevenir Llangardaix Jesucrist.

Laia Solé Coromina (Vic, 1976) has been an artist in residence at Roca Umbert for the past three years with works that explore the materiality of images and the poetic and critical potential that emerges when their recording function is weakened. She began her artistic career in Granollers within the context of the INcívics program and the Ciutat de Granollers sculpture prize. She is currently exhibiting at the Museu d’Art de la Pell (Vic, 2026). Her work has been shown at the Panoràmic Festival (2025), Sala Zero at Roca Umbert (Granollers, 2025), Drawing Center (New York, 2015), Cuchifritos Gallery (New York, 2016), Fundació Chirivella-Soriano (Valencia, 2015), Arts Santa Mònica (Barcelona, 2011), among others. She holds a degree in Fine Arts from the Universitat de Barcelona (2000) and a PhD from Teachers College at Columbia University in New York (2018).

Caterina Almirall (Barcelona, 1986) is an independent curator and lecturer at the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Universitat de Barcelona. Her curatorial research focuses on exhibition-making and mediating practices, with a special interest in the magical and ritual aspects of art. She also collaborates with artists and collectives, developing mentorships, research, creation and writing projects.
