Isabel Banal (Castellfollit de la Roca, 1963) is a visual artist and professor at Escola Massana who was awarded the Bòlit Residència Girona Creativa 2025 grant. The exhibition focuses on a theme she has been exploring for some time: the idea of carrying. Everyone constantly transports things, both out of necessity and as a result of pure consumerism. The project explores the idea of traces, working with the marks that carrying objects can leave behind: a basket, a bucket, a paper bag, a box… It makes weight visible and understands the trace as a form of memory.

The project stems from observing the different marks that objects leave on a soft surface, such as sand… From the contact between the underside of carrying objects and the ground. Generally, in the environments we move through, we encounter hard surfaces: pavement tiles, asphalt roads, station platforms, airport floors, elevator floors… We almost never see the traces we leave behind.
