April 18 and 19, 2026

On the occasion of Sant Jordi’s Day, Destil·leria and M|A|C have sought to contribute to the literary celebration with Books That Inhabit (Llibres que habiten). The exhibition invites us to shift our perspective from the book as a mere container of information to the book as an autonomous work of art.

This selection of contemporary artists reveals a space for dialogue where paper, material, and structure become a language of their own, often far removed from each creator’s usual disciplines. In this exhibition, the artist’s book does not tell a story: it breathes it. We move away from serial publishing to enter the realm of the unique copy and the unrepeatable object. These are pieces that do not seek multiplicity, but rather the specificity of gesture—works that become body, gesture, and silence.

Beyond linear reading, these works propose a spatial perception. A book that inhabits is a book that calls for hands, time, and unhurried attention. It is a refuge of the artist’s subjectivity that, when leafed through, becomes a private performative act between the work and the person holding it.

Program of activities

More than a static exhibition, the project is conceived as a moving ecosystem. The space will transform through two ways of relating to books:

  • Activations and presentations: the artists will awaken their books through demonstrations and words, revealing the invisible processes and the materials that pulse within each piece.
  • Spaces of intimacy and reading: we seek silence and proximity. At scheduled times, the artists will offer a slow-paced format for meeting—either to converse openly or to share a silent reading, connecting with the soul of the work through touch and gaze.
