Miniaturas y óleos. Félix Cavestany
Following the thread of Cavestany’s own reflection on his relationship with painting, where he tells me it is a mystery to him, an entire pictorial universe emerges, at once intimate and singular, which does not attempt to explain what surpasses him but rather to delve into the mystery of existence and, consequently, of art itself. It honors precisely the idea of mystery and enigma, with the intention of preserving that which eludes us.
In line, then, with Antoni Llena, in the text he wrote for the painter’s first solo exhibition, the aim is not to explain the artwork, because the desire to do so only devalues it. Certainly, the task of the art critic must be subtle.
What we contemplate are geometric forms, accompanied by colors and tones exquisite in their combination, which may seem fragile, when in reality they are quite forceful. In this sense, and as is characteristic of abstract art, it seems that the artist’s gaze is directed not at the external world but at his inner world.
Practicing experimental painting, deliberately, as he does by using collage on his papers, for example, might suggest that his work is rushed and inexperienced. Quite the contrary, Félix Cavestany Güell is demonstrating that he is a solid artist with potential and a bright future ahead of him.
