Pantalla Pavelló | “Barcelona” | Film series “Costa Brava (Family Album)” – Marta Balletbò-Coll

Costa Brava (Family Album) (1995), directed by Marta Balletbò-Coll, tells the story of a budding romance between Anna, a tour guide aspiring to be an artist, and Montserrat, an American engineer, set between 1990s Barcelona and the Costa Brava. Through humour, tenderness, and small everyday scenes, the film explores doubt, desire, and intimacy, using voice-overs, black-and-white photographs, and Mediterranean landscapes to create a poetic portrait of the city and the coast. A pioneer on the Iberian Peninsula in openly portraying lesbian relationships, the film blends comedy and sensitivity with a happy ending, celebrating love and happiness between women. Shot in just fourteen days and in English, it received both local and international awards and became a landmark of Catalan cinema with a strong female voice.
