IRAN IN THE FOREGROUND, BEYOND THE VEIL

Vigilant Eye tells the story of a young woman who lost an eye during the 2022 protests in Iran after being shot by government forces. Three years later, she refuses to wear a prosthesis. The documentary follows her inner conflict: returning to the face she had before or living with a wound that has turned her into a political symbol.

Abbas Ghazali is a renowned Iranian filmmaker and actor based in Barcelona. His work focuses on documentary cinema, with special attention to themes of human rights, memory, and resistance.

Iranian cinema has become a space of creative freedom despite censorship and restrictions, turning into a window of protest and beauty where public and private spaces constantly collide, where women and young people fight to make their demands heard, and where cinema powerfully reflects this latent tension. This film series offers a view of Iran not only through its conflicts, but also through its great capacity for resilience and desire for change, with a unique poetic and narrative strength. The screenings showcase some of the latest cinematic productions that have achieved great success with both audiences and critics, addressing themes that challenge and engage us as active members of the community.
