Artistic residency with childcare in Fabra i Coats: Fàbrica de Creació
Inscripcions Obertes!Fabra i Coats: Fàbrica de Creació and BASE Ò, with the support of the Office for the Support of Cultural Initiatives of the Government of Catalonia, are launching the Mater Art call, aimed at supporting the development of artistic projects through a residency with childcare, lasting twelve weeks: from September 22 to December 19 (both included), at Fabra i Coats: Fàbrica de Creació.
The call is open until May 30. Four residencies will be granted per project, and applicants may apply as couples, in which case they will count as a single slot.
This program is a co-production of Base Ò and Fabra i Coats: Fàbrica de Creació, aimed at supporting work-life balance within the professional world.
The Mater Art residency program is a political act from the field of cultural management and artistic creation, aiming to resonate beyond its context to raise awareness about parenting and professional life; experiences and survival; caring for caregivers; and the need to build a community to support one another. We base our work on a model of social sustainability that seeks a necessary balance between family life and professional life.
The goal of the Mater Art program is to support the professional development of individuals during the early stages of raising children—the most chaotic period, both logistically and emotionally, and the one marked by the greatest codependency. In doing so, we aim to help prevent career stagnation during this phase.
The model is based on integration, not the creation of like-minded but exclusionary spaces. It offers an open workspace for artists and a connected, inspiring space for children, where they have the freedom to move between both environments while maintaining visual contact with their mother or father. Responsibility for childcare is shared between the childcare facilitators and the parents, who are all jointly responsible for the practical care work.
