Singuli. La ciutat idiota

The idiot is the simple person; a light presence that conveys a single message: life simply happens; there is nothing essential to say, and even less that is essential to do.

The idiot does not shy away from public responsibilities. On the contrary, they take on the most complex mission: to ruin everything in order to ensure that things always happen in a different way. This horizon of absolute indeterminacy and endless possibilities coincides with the anarchic void.

For this reason, the idiot is the true anarchist and, consequently, the one who compels us to formulate the fundamental political question: how might a community of idiots be conceived? How can we conceive the paradox of a polis made up of radical and irreducible singularities? How, then, can an anarchist city be described?

Singuli is the Latin term meaning “each one”, the “one” in “one by one” within a whole; in other words, a singularity that can only be conceived within the framework of a plural entity: a community, a city. For this reason, we propose Singuli as the place name of that improbable city of idiots, where each individual remains an absolute singularity (idiotikós) and where the community, paradoxical as it may seem, is constituted in an im-political manner.

The exhibition guides visitors through ninety-nine examples of projects, both real and fictional, each of which expresses something of Singuli. None of these examples corresponds exactly to the idiotic and anarchist city, yet all of them approach it from a particular angle. Singuli does not exist or, if you prefer, it pulses everywhere.

Alongside the projections and models that make up this unconventional collection, the courtyard hosts Stelo, a work by Jordi Colomer created specifically for this project. It is based on a distinctive evocation of Esperanto, the artificial language intended to create a space of fraternity.
