Suite Neocubista. Manuel Valls
The exhibition “Neocubist Suite” is something like a journey through time, formally inspired by cubist painting of the early 20th century. I call it a suite because it consists of a collection of paintings connected to each other, although every piece is a work in itself. The overall vision inevitably creates the sensation of being in front of a sequence that narrates something difficult to translate into words.
The use of fragmenting objects and figures into geometric shapes, and reconstructing these components into an abstract composition, is intentional, giving meaning to this series. Even so, it’s important to mention that it is a journey through time, as it ranges from Neolithic art, ancient Greek art, medieval art, Romanesque, and Baroque, to the most disruptive movements of the early 20th century.
In short, as the author, I wanted to offer the viewer a narrative that invites them to reflect on the world of the visible and the invisible.
