Yuge Zhou, Interlinked II
A collage of hundreds of video clips filmed in New York City’s subway stations; an underground network that becomes the stage for commuters’ routines, with a cyclical movement suggesting a rhythm and theatricality within urban corridors. This is the concept behind Interlinked II, an audiovisual piece by artist Yuge Zhou, which will be on view at the Lo Pati Art Center in Amposta until December 20.
Yuge Zhou is a visual artist born in China and based in Chicago, whose work explores themes of belonging, nostalgia, and transient encounters across built and natural spaces—the places of our shared dreams. Yuge has exhibited both nationally and internationally in art centers and public spaces and is currently a member of NEW INC, the New Museum’s art and technology incubator. Her recent accolades include the Jury Award in the Installation category at ArtPrize 2021, the Artist Fellowship Award in Media Arts from the Illinois Arts Council, and an Honorary Mention at the 2020 Prix Ars Electronica in Linz, Austria.
A Reflection on the Anthropocene
Throughout 2024, the “exterior room” of Lo Pati will host “Antroposcenes: Narratives on Life in the Anthropocene,” a series curated by Pau Waelder with six artistic proposals. Waelder has selected works by six artists reflecting on life in the Anthropocene, a concept that evokes the notion of a geological epoch shaped by the decisive influence of human activity on our planet. The artists in this selection have created audiovisual pieces that offer, from diverse perspectives, scenes of life in the Anthropocene, particularly in those environments and systems we often overlook but that play a critical role in sustaining life on Earth.
