Collection of Analogue Memes
Screens are constantly bombarding us with images, videos and visual content that flow at a frenetic pace. Immersed in this constant flux of information, children and young people are exposed to an increasingly accelerated visual culture in which everything seems fleeting and superficial. But amidst this chaos of images, there is a way to communicate, to play with visual language and to create one’s own meanings.
This exhibition brings together the creations of 5th-grade primary school students from Escola Sant Francesc d’Assís and 1st-year secondary school students from Escola Pia Sant Antoni and Escola Massana’s artistic baccalaureate, all of who have brought to life a collection of analogue memes.
The exhibition is part of the Apadrina el teu equipament (Sponsor Your Facility) project promoted by the Fundació Tot Raval, which connects educational centres with cultural institutions, and of which La Capella has been a member since 2019, accompanying students in a process of discovery and reflection on visual culture today. On this occasion, the students visited La Capella and discovered the exhibition Caca banal (Banal Poop). Inspired by the work of the artist Daniel Moreno Roldán, they explored how memes can act as a tool to reflect on the world, using the visual language of social media to express themselves with humour, creativity and criticism.
The result? A collection of memes that invites us to rethink how new generations use visual language to question, play and share their vision of the world.
