Paratext #89 con Sara Miravet, Sina Stengel y Peggy KUO

Under the name Paratext, a monthly programme of presentations by resident artists at Hangar and artists connected to the exchange grant programme takes shape. Through a range of formats, the sessions host projects, research and ongoing working processes, approaching presentation as a space for circulation and exchange rather than as an instance of final outcome or exhibition. Open to the public, these gatherings seek to foster interaction between the artists and the local context.

The next Paratext session will take place on Tuesday, May 26, at 7 p.m. in Hangar’s Sala Ricson.

Projects will be presented by:

Sara Miravet (Short-stay residency)

Her double life in fandom communities of My Little Pony, Vocaloid, anime, RPG Maker horror games… making “cringe” art led her to develop a fascination with programming, code, and above all, an interest in online social behaviors—understanding why she could be a version of herself so honest, emotive, uninhibited, and how she could invoke it into the tangible world. All these concerns materialized into research projects, publications, and interactive installations exploring human relationships, fear of intimacy and pain, the pathologization of feelings, with a particular focus on what we can learn from the unrestrained artistic expressions of fandoms.

Her research covers dissident identities and their construction in the physical and digital world; the construction of language beyond spoken tongues, emotional dissociation in the face of a hostile world, and the pathologization of feelings. It speaks of apathy and emotional overflow, pain and pleasure, life and death, and the importance of oscillating between extremes.

Sina Stengel (Research Residency at São Paulo, Brazil)

Sina Stengel is a creative professional based in Barcelona, Spain. Her work is described as a research rooted in personal and collective questions related to the physical, mental, and spiritual journeys of migration, exploring her own identity through the poetry of everyday life as a dynamic process of cultural interconnection.

Her main disciplines include street photography, experimental video and sound, dance, and writing.

Peggy KUO (Institutional residence in collaboration with the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office and the Taiwanese Ministry of Culture)

PEI-CHI KUO is a new media artist, curator, and lecturer based in Taipei. She holds an MFA from the Graduate Institute of New Media Art at Taipei National University of the Arts, where she currently teaches at the Future College.

Her practice is rooted in experimental sound and interactive installations. In recent years, she has strongly focused on AI-generated imagery, alongside digital art education and technology-driven curation. Since 2012, her ongoing Sound Portrait series has combined music, sound, and visual art to examine socio-political issues and power structures, often deconstructing opposing ideologies with subtle humor and wit. Her works reflect the identity conflicts and contradictions faced by the younger generation.
