The Raval(s) Festival, which has been running for more than twenty years, is a socio-cultural and artistic creative process driven by over 100 organisations, associations, cultural and educational centres, collectives, groups and public services in the Raval neighbourhood.

This tour is both a protest against the walls at the border, in the legal system, and against cultural, institutional and economic walls. This tour is also a celebration of the anti-racist network in Barcelona.

The peripheries are so as long as we legitimize a center. In the city there are many peripheries, some urban, which are the easiest to see. Barcelona always flees from the peripheries. Everything beyond the Cerdà urbanistic plan is considered periphery.

We dreamt of freedom, anarchy was in bloom all around, the dictatorship had fallen and we were celebrating on the streets with our painting, writing and performance. Innocent, we could finally see this other world through a peephole!

There are many topics to tackle, that may concern various XarxaProd projects, but we have chosen 4, and we have called upon 4 people who we trust that by bringing them into their own terrain, would manage to sharpen their point sufficiently.

To examine the interrelationships that creative production spaces establish and enable between contemporary practice, the audiences they work with and their immediate context, means addressing the very nature and purpose of these structures.

As I recall my travels, and the residencies among them, I think of the contradictions we get caught up in every day, and I’m still unsure if a residency can offer you anything more than a trip as a tourist staying for a limited period of time in a hotel can offer you.
